Danmei is the Chinese version of Japanese BL (boy's love) or yaoi, meaning the main romantic coupling in a story is between two men.
While there are comic (Manhua) and TV adaptations, the source material is almost always a novel or novel series. This site will be also mostly focused on the original works, i.e. books.
While Japanese (BL) Manga and Anime have been around for a while, Chinese Danmei novels have only started to gain global popularity and recognition in the past couple of years.
A selection of some Danmei from my library accompanied by my cute Axolotl reading light that has illuminated a few sleepless nights of Danmei reading.
While I was diving into the world of Danmei, I noticed that there aren't too many resources available that explain sub-genres, help on deciding what to read or inform about the best ways to get Danmei books.
I have done quite a bit of research in the past couple of months and for that, I heavily relied on AI search engines, Reddit and publisher's websites. While that whole process was fun, I was thinking that it would be great to compile my knowledge and make it easily accessible for others to look up. And also for myself to not forget, of course ( • ᴗ - ) ✧
There is a lot more to Danmei than what I explained in the short paragraph above. So, I hope you can discover many new aspects of it while browsing this site.

My name is MianMian and I am a STEM researcher who enjoys Anime, J-pop and of course, Danmei novels, in her free time. A totally hopeless Otaku really ¯\_ (ᵕ—ᴗ—)_/¯
I started reading Danmei in late 2025 and boy, I was hooked! Since then, I've literally read a ton of books and the genre has become a passion.
What I love about it, is that it caters to all the different aspects I enjoy about great stories. Of course, you get beautifully nuanced romances that transcend norms and boundaries. But not only that! You also get intricately crafted storylines full of unexpected twists and turns, amazing world building and well-written side characters. Also, Danmei cannot really be described as single genre. There is a huge variety to discover!
In late summer 2025, I was having dinner with two of my fujoshi friends. I had been trying to get them into Danmei (of course ( - ᴗ •́ )). I proudly showed them my Danmei reading list that was (and still is) organized in a color coded spreadsheet. Then, I proceeded to talk about different publishers and book ordering from abroad. One of them said: "Wow, it almost sounds as if you work for a publisher" and the other one added: "I'm impressed you can remember all of your thoughts regarding these books. If it was me, I would forget them if I didn't write them down." Thus, the idea to make this site was born!
I want to compile all my knowledge and opinions regarding Danmei in one place, so that they might be useful to a fellow enthusiast or even spark the passion for this wonderful genre ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜
